Legendary Nollywood star Tina Mbah has shared pearls of wisdom for fellow actors struggling to balance marriage and stardom in Nollywood’s demanding spotlight.
Drawing from her own experiences, she emphasized recognizing early red flags in partners who may secretly oppose an acting career after marriage.
The seasoned performer and mother of two encouraged colleagues to follow her example in refusing to dim their professional glow for matrimony.
During a candid chat on Lights, Camera – It’s My Turn, Mbah revealed: “He knew you as an actress when he proposed. If he suddenly demands you quit acting because of insecurity or family duties, that’s a trap. The warning signs appear early—never ignore them.”
She added, “Have those tough conversations first. If needed, make it official that your career isn’t negotiable. Did he offer to quit his job? Of course not. Marry someone who celebrates your craft, not suffocates it.”
Mbah concluded with empowering advice: “Marriage matters, but it shouldn’t be a prison. The world is full of possibilities—wait for a partner who uplifts you, not someone threatened by your light. Stay authentic. Be that rare, unstoppable gem—just like me.”
