An Afghanistan-born coach, known as Ashgar, tragically passed away during a youth training camp hosted by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in Riesa, Saxony, Germany.

German media reports indicate Ashgar collapsed on the field at Feralpi Arena during lunch on Monday. Despite immediate medical attention, he later succumbed in the hospital.

The five-day camp, involving 119 young players from Riesa and surrounding regions, was eagerly anticipated under the guidance of Bayern’s coaching staff.

“Ashgar collapsed on the pitch during the lunch break. Later that afternoon, we received the devastating news of his passing in the hospital,” stated BSG Stahl Riesa, the local partner organizing the camp with Bayern Munich, on their website.

Out of respect for Ashgar and his family, Bayern Munich terminated the camp prematurely.

In an official statement, the club expressed their grief, writing to parents: “We are profoundly shocked by the tragedy at our FC Bayern Campus session in Riesa. Words cannot capture our sorrow. Our hearts go out to his loved ones.”

Psychological support was arranged for affected participants, including children, parents, and staff.

Ashgar had coached an under-13 team in Austria. His club, TSV Hartberg, honored him on Instagram: “His kindness, professionalism, and warmth endeared him to everyone—players, parents, and colleagues alike. His sudden loss leaves an irreplaceable void.”
