
A football supporter tragically lost their life after falling from the stands during the Nations League final between Portugal and Spain in Munich on Sunday, June 8.
UEFA confirmed the incident to AFP’s subsidiary SID.
The supporter fell from the central tier during extra time, landing in the press box below.
Emergency responders and police quickly arrived to provide aid.
A UEFA spokesperson described the situation as a “medical emergency” and confirmed the fan’s unfortunate passing during the match.
Both teams shared their condolences after Portugal’s 5-3 penalty victory following a 2-2 draw.
Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente offered his sympathies during the post-match press conference.
“I extend my deepest condolences for the fan’s passing. It reminds us of life’s true priorities.”
A Portuguese team representative also expressed sorrow, stating the tragedy “overshadows today’s victory.”
Portugal’s coach Roberto Martinez called it “devastating news.”
The fan fell approximately eight meters, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.
