Afrobeats superstar Rema, born Divine Ikubor, recently showered praise on music legend D’banj for his role in shaping the genre’s global reach.
Rema highlighted how D’banj’s groundbreaking 2012 hit, ‘Oliver Twist,’ broke barriers as the first Nigerian track to crack the UK Top 10, setting the stage for Afrobeats’ global explosion.
During his electrifying sold-out show at London’s O2 Arena, Rema brought D’banj on stage, crediting him as the trailblazer who paved the way for artists like himself.
With heartfelt gratitude, Rema acknowledged that D’banj’s early successes in the UK laid the foundation for the current wave of Afrobeats dominance.
“Big shoutout to you for kicking down those doors. We, the new generation, stand on the shoulders of giants like you.
“You and Don Jazzy brought Afrobeats to the UK scene first. Y’all set the blueprint.
“Forever grateful—this moment wouldn’t be possible without your legacy. Much love,” he declared.
