Adeboye highlighted how modern pressures—like career demands and financial pursuits—often force couples into long-distance marriages, with some partners living in different states or even countries. “While long-distance courtships aren’t new, long-distance marriages are a growing concern. Though short-term separations may be unavoidable, prolonged distance harms marital bonds. Infidelity often stems from absence—whether physical or emotional. Even couples under the same roof can drift apart if work consumes their time, leaving little room for connection.
When you’d rather share your thoughts with outsiders than your spouse, danger looms. If home feels like a place to escape rather than embrace, or if you confide in ‘just friends’ of the opposite sex, it’s time for honest reflection. Don’t dismiss warning signs—many affairs begin as ‘harmless’ friendships before temptation strikes. I pray God shields your marriage from such pitfalls.
Prioritize your spouse. Plan regular dates, take evening walks, and escape routine with yearly getaways. Your marriage is sacred—second only to your relationship with God. As Scripture reminds us, ‘the two shall become one.’ Be deliberate in nurturing that unity, and God will honor your commitment.”
