Nigerian songstress Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has shared a heartfelt message with fellow musicians in the industry.
The award-winning artist emphasized the importance of artists being signed by individuals who genuinely love the music business.
She cautioned against signing artists merely for hype or status, stressing the need for authenticity in artist development.
Simi opened up about this during a candid chat with media personality VJ Adams.
She said, “I could sign an artist, but it’s unfair when musicians sign others just to check off a career milestone. For some, it’s more of a side project than a real commitment. But at the end of the day, it’s their choice.”
“In my opinion, only those who are truly passionate about the music business should sign artists. They need to believe in their talent—not just when they’re winning, but even when things aren’t going as planned.”
“Are you willing to push through the tough times? To keep investing in them, even if their latest track didn’t take off? This isn’t just business—it’s someone’s dream, their future. I once wondered the same thing when I was getting signed: ‘Do you see me as just another contract, or is this as meaningful to you as it is to me?'”
“That’s why I’m unsure if I’d sign anyone. It takes relentless energy, patience, and dedication—and I have to ask myself if I’m truly prepared for that journey.”
