Liverpool, the Premier League titleholders, have pledged to fulfill Diogo Jota’s contract by transferring his remaining salary to his family after his untimely death at 28.
The Portuguese forward and his brother Andre tragically lost their lives in a car accident during the early hours of Thursday, July 3, in Spain.
Jota, who renewed his contract with Liverpool in 2022 for five more years, was earning approximately £140,000 weekly, totaling around £7.2 million annually.
Liverpool will disburse nearly £14.5 million to Jota’s family, covering the remaining two years of his agreement.
This compassionate decision highlights the club’s dedication to assisting the grieving family.
The father of three passed away just two weeks after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.
Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020, making 182 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals and contributing 26 assists.
During his time with the Reds, he secured a Premier League title, an FA Cup, and two League Cups.
