Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has mourned the demise of ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai.
In his tribute on social media, Obi called Rufai’s death deeply saddening, acknowledging his wholehearted service to Nigeria during his playing years.
He highlighted how Rufai brought joy to countless Nigerian football fans with his outstanding performances over the years.
The former Anambra governor offered prayers for the peaceful rest of Rufai’s soul and asked God to strengthen his grieving family.
“May he rest eternally in peace, and may his impact continue to motivate future generations. Farewell, Peter Rufai, our beloved Dodo Mayana,” Obi wrote.
Rufai passed away at 61 on Thursday in Lagos after battling an illness.
